Star Image

These are our mood boards for our star image we have chosen to make our costume/look 'Urban'.
We have added photos of what we plan to wear in different parts of the music video.

We have chosen things such as; A Harrington, Mom Jeans, Dr Martins, All White Adidas, Crop Tops, Baggy Jumpers and Jean Jacket.

For the makeup and hair of our star we have chosen to keep natural looking makeup in some shots, However when in London with the bright colourful background of grafitti we have decided to exaggerate the make up and have more of a bold look to stand out and fit into the urban look.

For Our stars hair we have selected a few different looks we have chosen to have Slick Back Hair, Beach waves, and a messy up do.

Locations

We have scouted out many different locations that are of Urban/Dance theme and locations that are typically seen in Urban/Dance music videos.

WATERLOO LEAKE STREET- Also known as the 'Banksy Tunnel'. The walls are decorated with graffiti, this is a legal zone for graffiti so we could film our lead singer graffitiing the walls. Here we will shoot Gabi lip syncing and also shoot her dancing.

MILE END SKATEPARK- We originally saw this location in the music video 'Heart Skips A Beat' by Olly Murs ft Rizzle Kicks and thought that this would be a perfect place for the dance scene were using in our music video.

BARKING TUNNEL- When we was searching online for location we came across this tunnel, we then instantly recognised it from Dr Who, we thought this maybe would be a good location for a music video. However after finding the location and looking at how far it would be to get there and how we would carry equipment there we have decided to keep this location in mind however not use it as it would be hard to get to with all the cameras and equipment.

DRAMA HUT - We're going to be filming the scene where Gabi has powder paint on her face in a drama hut at school. We choose to film this scene here as it's a got a black backdrop, and it will give us the studio effect that we want to achieve.
We also want to film the scene where there is just a bunch of people partying, we thought this would be the best location for this is this room has the capability of being lit much like a club would.

WALKING AROUND LONDON-SOUTHBANK, TRANSPORT (OVERGROUND, UNDERGROUND, BUSES)- We decided to have shots of Gabi walking around London, as deep house which is the genre of our song was a development of garage music which was originated in London, so we thought that these iconic places would be the most suitable. We also want shots of gabi messing about in London as this seems to be the lifestyle of those that listen to dance music, always being out and having fun and having a almost you only live once attitude to life, this is what we also believe the target audience to be like which will furthermore make our music video appeal to the target audience.

BRICK LANE-In brick lane we plan to shoot Gabi walking around brick lane for some of the jump cuts. Also we feel it matches the genre that we doing. Furthermore, it adds continuity to the music video with the colour matching and graffiti.

Analysis of Lyrics

We analysed the lyrics in the song to work out their literal meanings. We then used this to generate visual ideas for the music video.

Video Inspiration

Shift K3Y - Touch

We liked this music video due continuity of colour from the hand prints. We particularly like the transfer of the colour from the handprints. From this music video, we want to experiment with paint transferring onto the body and experiment with continuity of paint and colour. Furthermore, we liked the lights in this music video. Initially, we thought about filming in the drama studio to create the appearance of club or rave. This music video has given us ideas to play with when trying to shot the club scene. Moreover, the costume the female is wearing in this music video has also matches the star image we will present in our music video.

Cheryl - Call My Name

Cheryl uses a colour distinction in this music video to highlight her star image and the genre of the music. She does this with a contrast of neon/bright colours against black. Anthony Mandler the director of this music video, uses close ups in the music video of the star to create intimacy with the spectator, a convention Antony Mandler is known for. As a group we like this music video due to the juxtaposition of colour and we have decided to incorporate this in our own music video. Furthermore, we also liked the shot of Cheryl in the tunnel as it creates interesting camera angles and shape within the frame. The dance routine is another feature of the music video we want to include  in our music video, however, we will change from a male dance routine to a all female dance troop. We also thought the wider shots to show location with Cheryl walking through them were appealing and we want to showcase with our locations with these wider frames. Finally, we also liked the cuts and rewinds on the beat of the song, we defiantly will include this editing in our music video. Nevertheless, Cheryl's Call My Name music video has given us initial and substantial ideas which we will experiment with and develop.

Video Inspiration

As a group we discussed using a split screen with mirror image and also a rewinding effect of the main star. The music video for Right Here By Jess Glynne influenced us as it has used a split screen and rewinds shots multiple times throughout the video. From seeing these in this video we thought that it would go with our genre and the feeling of our music video, also as Jess Glynne is a solo artist we feel that using the split shots like she has in the video really shows the audience the star which again is perfect for our music video as we have one main artist. From this music video we also felt that it gave off the same vibe and star image we are looking for in our music video. another thing that has inspired us for our music video is the make up. In this video Jess Glynne's make up is natural but is still obvious. we want to add this sort of makeup to our main star when the are in the locations that are not London, this is because we want the make up in London to be big and bold. However when she is not in London we want her to still have make up but not as much as what she would have when in London.

Video inspiration

This video for Heart Attack by Demi Lovato. Our group have decided that we really like this music video, especially in the shots where Demi Lovato has her hair slicked back with black paint on her hands. We like this idea of having slicked back hair as in our music video it will give a very bare natural feel to the video, as well as being quite sexy. We really like the idea of the paint being on her hands and gradually building up on her neck and face, we thought that we could use this idea except we would have the paint be bright colours to signify the genre of our music video being dance.

Video Inspiration

DJ Fresh ft. Rita Ora -  Hot Right Now

The video for Hot Right Now is a video myself and my group love for numerous reasons. The use of colour and props to create an urban/garage feel is definitely inspiring. Every shot is filled with an abundance of bright and vibrant colours. In the video Rita is seen walking around different locations, one of which includes a graffiti covered wall, this is something we want to draw on in our music video. She is also surrounded by a group of hipster dancers, this is also something we want to incorporate in our video. However, in this video the dancers tend to freestyle, whereas in our video we want to come up with a routine but include snippets of free styling. We like the clothes Rita wears, it's very unique and has a strong 80s feel which is further amplified by the boom box she carries around with her in the video. For our video we're going to use urban, edgy clothing like mom-jeans and crop tops. We would also like to have a boom box in our video but are unsure as to how we would precure one. Rita Ora's star image is also very similar to the star image of our artist. Iconic imagery such as the peroxide hair and bright red lipstick will be used in our video. Unlike this video, our video will have a more diverse range of locations, each of which will be used to create different emotions and feelings. A few examples of our locations are Leake Street and The London Eye. Finally I believe this is a fantastic music video which captures the heart of the song, and me and my team hope to create something as exceptional as this.

Gecko (Overdrive) Brainstorm

In todays lesson we started discussing in further detail the locations, costumes and dance routine. We decided on the different outfits we'll be using in the music video. When were at Leake Street Gabi will be wearing all black so that she doesn't blend into the background. When we're doing the powder paint scene, Gabi will wear a bandeau which creates the appearance she is nude. We also decided that our dancers will wear denim to add to the 'garage' feel of the video. We also wanted to bring back 'double denim' as it was iconic in it's time, and its revival will interest a wider audience.

For the locations we decided to use the drama studios at school to do the powder paint scene and the club scene. Other locations include Camden, Brick Lane and Mile End skate park.
